Whatever it says in the description, it doesn't do. You can get your knives sharper by using the bottom of a ceramic coffee mug. Not worth the money, even if the cost was dropped to $1.00

As a chef, I have never found a more powerful honing rod. Honing rods are not traditionally meant for sharpening, but this thing is so tough and course that you can actually put a quick new edge on your blade in a few swipes. It is a little strange to use and if you don't have the muscle memory built up for a honing rod already, it might not seem like it is working right, but trust me, this thing is insanely effective. Keep in mind you might want to keep a standard ceramic honing rod around as well to finish up with and smooth out your edge, because it is so coarse and diveted. Definitely NOT FOR BEGINNER COOKS, but not that hard to figure out with a little hands-on demo

I wanted a diamond sharpening rod for kitchen cutlery, since I have diamond, carbide, steel, and ceramic sharpeners for a mix of kitchen and tactical knives. The Smith #3001 10" is well made and sharpens well. I trusted the favorable reviews here. The tip is an extension of the substrate material under the diamond sharpening surface, and is hard and will slip on a hard countertop. A non-slip tip would be a nice modification, but it's very usable as is.

Works incredibly well! The diamonds make this steel super efficient. You only need a couple of passes of your blade to bring it back to awesome sharpness! Light weight, easy to hold. Very nice. Would definitely buy again.

i bought this due to the fact that I have a bunch of dull knives lying about. The versatility is superb. I instantly pulled it out and began using it. I started off with a dull kitchen knife and after a few light strokes she was back in action and extremely sharp!!! It should last a long time as the build and design proves to be sturdy and with good materials. I also like the idea of it being oblong shaped blade sharpener as well. Gives a little more versatility I believe.

Have not used it for long so I cannot speak to longevity, but it sharpened my friend's entire drawer of pathetically dull knives.UPDATE:This sharpener is FAST, FAST and FAST! I can take the most useless cheap quality knife and sharpen it to "cut your finger off" sharp in less than a minute, and tomato sharp in two! Simply amazing speed!

This was fantastic, at first. Two swipes and razor sharp. But, soon the diamonds began to erode away. Maybe 20-some sharpenings and there was nothing left. Useless. That's about $1 per sharpening. Would not buy again.

This sharpening stick will put an edge on a knife fast! It sharpened my meat carvers so that they easily sliced both Pork roast and a Ham perfectly. The only problem I have is that it is perhaps a bit too coarse. I might prefer to work a little harder to get a nice smooth edge. I will probably follow it with a sharpening steel for a clean edge.
